Love as Decision vs Feeling

I wrote this in November of 2019, and never published it. Covid hit and things got weird, so it sat in my email drafts file, forgotten. Seems appropriate today as a resistance movement statement in today's word.

Love is a decision

to accept what is

to deepen what could be

Love is a commitment

to yourself

to see

with eyes of acceptance

understanding need

to be the person you want to be

as much as the person you want

someone else to respond to

More than a feeling

love is a moral action

a transformative light

in terrifying darkness

Lasting love is not about romance

it's about unconditional positive regard

filling empty spaces within you

seeking to be the soft place

welcoming another

sorrowing

treading fear

openly receiving

compassion

Choose love

as an active verb

The world

needs love

sweet love

again
